Three Decades of NSTMIS Scheme-1985-2015: Research Summaries
The NSTMIS Division has been instrumental in putting together several baseline databases on the S&T resources highlighting relative strengths and weaknesses at national level. The studies on Industrial R&D, examine not only the overall scenario, but also probe in-depth into several emerging sectors like drugs and pharmaceuticals, bio-technology, information technology etc. Science productivity studies based on citation data from international citation databases, and more recently studies on innovation have been able to showcase the Indian contributions and the relative strengths. The studies have, also covered various topics like S&T education at higher levels, S&T trade, public perception on S&T, patents output, R&D funding, S&T intra and extra mural research in various states, and aspects of technology management.
The sponsored research studies have imparted backward and forward linkages with the in-house research activities of NSTMIS by providing the much needed evidence base for policy actions in the S&T sector. NSTMIS research sponsorship has been availed by over 100 organizations including research institutions, universities, colleges, NGOs, and consultancy organizations spread across the country.
This compilation gives a panoramic view of the work done so far including brief description of the important outcomes. The compilation, apart from helping researchers, policy makers and planners, would serve as a window to outreach the potential researchers, agencies and institutions to understand the thrust and the direction of the NSTMIS research over the decades.
